  • CAPITAL LETTERS = Shuddh Swars (Natural Notes)
  • small letters = Komal Swars (Flat Notes)
  • M with # [hash] or ^ [exponent] = Tivra Madhyam (M# / M^)
  • Letter/Alphabet ONLY = Medium Pitch/Normal blow on flute
  • Letter/Alphabet PRECEDED BY a ” . ” [full stop] or  a ” , ” [comma] = Low Octave Note/Softer blow on flute
  • Letter/Alphabet FOLLOWED BY a ‘ [single quote] = High Octave Note/harder blow on flute
  • Notes in { } = “murki” have to be played very fast without any pause
  • A Note in ( ) = “kann swar” has to be just touched before moving on to the next note
  • A “~” between two Notes  = “meend”. That is, you have to glide from one note to another slowly to produce that wavy effect.
  • Few “….” (dots) after a note = Play and hold that note

    If your Flute is in F sharp what Key are you playing the song in? Is it C as the Original?

    But the starting Note in the Original Key of C is…G, A Sharp then C or Pa, Dha (flat) and Sa…..

    So how does your Re note fit in?

    So so happy to have stumbled on this page. I play the Saxophone and these notes were amazing to play the Saxophone, to this classic song and wonderful composition of O Majhi Re.

      Zabardast cheers from Toronto…..can I play your Sargam on a Piano?

        My notations work well in most of the instruments including Piano. But yes, you may have to transpose.

      R D Burman was a genius who could make such kind of music. His experiments with music gave us treasures like this song. RD was never afraid of mixing more than one raag in his compositions. Though I’m not very sure, but this song – O Majhi Re – also seems to be an amalgamation of two raags viz., Shivranjani and Khamaj.
