Sargam notations for the Bengali song Jao pakhi bolo

Singer : Shreya Ghoshal, Pranab Biswas
Music : Shantanu Moitra
Lyrics – Anindya Chatterjee & Chandril Bhattacharya
Movie : Antaheen (2009)

This a wonderful composition by Shantanu Moitra.  A soft melodious romantic Bengali song sung equally well by Shreya Ghoshal.  It feels so soothing when you play it on your flute.  The alaap in this song is perhaps based on Des Raag.

Writing the exact Sargam for the alaap was difficult hence, I would advice the players to listen to the other songs and tunes based on Desh Raag and then they can improvise that into this song.

Raag Desh typically uses  Sa Re Ma Pa Ni Sa.  The alaap in this song reminds of the olden days’ composition that used to come on Doordarshan as “Baje sargam har taraf se, goonj bankar desh raag“.
