How to read SARGAM
  • CAPITAL LETTERS Shuddh Swars (Natural Notes)
  • small letters Komal Swars (Flat Notes)
  • with # [hash] or ^ [exponent] = Tivra Madhyam (M# / M^)
  • Letter/Alphabet ONLY = Medium Pitch/Normal blow on flute
  • Letter/Alphabet PRECEDED BY a ” . ” [full stop] or  a ” , ” [comma] = Low Octave Note/Softer blow on flute
  • Letter/Alphabet FOLLOWED BY a ‘ [single quote] = High Octave Note/harder blow on flute
  • Notes in { } “murki” have to be played very fast without any pause
  • A Note in ( ) “kann swar” has to be just touched before moving on to the next note
  • A “~” between two Notes  = “meend”. That is, you have to glide from one note to another slowly to produce that wavy effect.
  • Few “….” (dots) after a note = Play and hold that note

  1. Hi
I really appreciate the good job being done by you for all the music lovers. Your notations are correct and easily we can play them. I have one humble suggestion. Pl also add which taal will go with the song because these days you get keyboards with the Indian raags and Taals.
Also can u update some of the old post notes where the interludes and introduction music are not included?
Even if you can update one song per week, it will be a great help, especially for those who want to play for small functions. You know it is very difficult for us to do interludes and introduction music on our own.
    Thanks.

  2. I was looking for the Carnatic notes of this immortal song and googled it and got these notes . It was wonderful to play flute with these notes . No words to thank you Prashant ji

  3. The video was very helpful. Are the scale the same as that of the original song? It would be nice if you mention the original scale of the song and the scale on which the notations are given.

  4. Plz add scale of the song and which taal is used…notes are correctly given….some doubts on tilde..and in brackets notes..not getting what are those…
